Number Hosting Guidelines for LC Phone Locations

Modified on: Fri, 13 Mar, 2026 at 8:45 AM

Overview

Number Hosting (Hosted SMS / Hosted Messaging) allows you to enable SMS/MMS messaging on phone numbers you already own with another carrier, while continuing to use LC  for messaging.

Your phone number remains fully active with your original carrier for voice calls, but text messaging (SMS/MMS) is routed through LC.

This setup is ideal for businesses that want to keep their existing phone numbers while leveraging LC’s messaging capabilities.

What Is Number Hosting (Hosted SMS / Hosted Messaging)?

Number Hosting enables SMS/MMS functionality on externally owned phone numbers without transferring voice services.

Key Points

  • You retain ownership of your phone number with your current carrier

  • Voice calling remains unchanged

  • Only SMS/MMS is routed through LC (HighLevel) via Twilio

  • No porting of the number is required

What This Means

  • Full control of your number stays with the original carrier

  • LC handles messaging delivery and compliance

  • Messaging reliability and throughput are managed by Twilio

Supported & Unsupported Number Types

Eligible Number Types

  • US and Canada Landline Numbers: Most local landline and toll-free numbers in the US and Canada can be enabled for SMS hosting.

  • Toll-Free Numbers: Toll-free numbers from the US and Canada are generally supported.

  • Numbers Without Existing SMS Service: The number must not already have SMS enabled with another provider.

Ineligible Number Types

  • Mobile Numbers: Cellular numbers cannot be hosted for SMS through Twilio.

  • Twilio Voice Numbers: Numbers already owned by a Twilio account for voice services cannot be hosted for messaging on a different account.

  • Non-US/Canada Numbers: Hosted SMS is not supported for numbers outside the US and Canada.

How Number Hosting Works for LC Phone Locations

To activate Hosted Messaging in LC,  a strict verification and authorization process to prevent fraud and ensure carrier compliance is required.

Required Steps (Completed by the End User / Number Owner)

  1. Ownership Verification

  2. Letter of Authorization (LoA) Signing

  3. Carrier Confirmation (if required by the provider)

Once Twilio approves these steps, Hosted Messaging routing is activated, allowing SMS/MMS to function inside the LC phone system.

Required Information for Submission

To begin the hosting request, please provide the following details to HighLevel 24/7 Live Chat Support:

1. LC Location ID

You can find your Location ID in the URL when logged into LC:

2. Phone Number(s) to Be Hosted
_____ +1XXXXXXXXXX ______

What Happens Next?

Once your Location ID and phone number(s) are submitted:

  1. HighLevel generates the Hosted Messaging Verification Form

  2. You or your client completes:

    • Ownership Verification

    • Letter of Authorization (LoA)

  3. Twilio reviews and approves the request

  4. SMS/MMS routing is activated for your LC phone system

Timeline Expectations

  • Typical approval time: 3–10 business days

  • Timeline may vary depending on:

    • Your carrier’s responsiveness

    • Additional verification requirements
