Auto Save in Workflow

Modified on: Mon, 13 Oct, 2025 at 8:07 AM

Auto Save continuously saves canvas edits  to your draft so you don’t have to click Save after every change. Your live workflow does not change until you Publish.

What Auto Save does (and doesn’t)

Saved automatically

  • Canvas changes: add / delete / modify steps

Not auto-saved

  • Configuration changes made inside a trigger / action

Turn Auto Save on

There are two ways to enable it:

  1. Onboarding pop-up (after enabling in Labs)
When you open a workflow, you’ll see a choice to Enable Auto Save Now or Continue with Manual Save.
    Enable prompt

  2. Global setting
Go to Global Workflow Settings → Auto Save and toggle On.

Once enabled, keep building as usual—Auto Save will write eligible edits to your draft. Publish when you’re ready to go live.

Using Auto Save (what you’ll see)

  • As you edit the canvas, you’ll see a short header status such as Saving… → Auto-saved.

  • The publish model remains unchanged: draft changes don’t impact the live workflow until you click Publish

Version History & sessions

  • Each editing session creates/updates an Auto-saved entry in Version History (shows time + editor).

  • Click Save Version any time to create a named checkpoint (great for milestones and reviews).

  • Restore brings back a prior version as a new draft; publish it when you’re confident in the changes.

Multi-editor behavior

  • Auto Save is optimized for one editor at a time.

  • If multiple users (or multiple tabs) edit a workflow simultaneously, the latest save wins for the draft.

  • Use Version History to see who saved when—and to roll back if needed.

Notes & limitations

  • Draft-only: Auto Save works when a workflow is in Draft. It’s disabled for Published workflows—switch to Draft to edit, then Publish to go live.

  • Scope: Auto Save covers canvas edits. Configuration inside actions/triggers aren’t auto-saved

  • Builders: Works in both Standard and Advanced Builder canvases with the same draft-only behavior.
